about

'Hope Springs Eternal' has a terrifying lack of clarity. It is not a COVID record even if HSE does run Britain. We were already needing help. Lyrics describe the ambiguity even in the starkest experiences of death, disease, love and sex. Played warmly out through a psychedelic undercurrent. Hope for slight change in a shitty situation is sometimes all people can grasp for.

The vocals contain carefully chewed words with a fully committed reedy vocal.
There is an element of a Gothic Acoustic Americana coupled with some experimental synth and subtle but potent reverbed backing vocals. The atmosphere is dark and absurd. It stays true to the lofi punk BADgertRAP DIY art ethic. Quirky when it needs to be. Raging in other moments.

It was recorded in a rectory in Somerset with a warm gothic feel , mellowed out in the reverb of a bathroom and rocked in a garage in Bristol.

Perhaps it takes you on a journey through BADgertRAP country. Lollypop men, rabies, euthanasia, mysterious sheds, alcoholics, confused love and hallucinations. Instrumental parts allow you to immerse yourself in a drifting tide of electronic sustain and melodic flow.

A sense of a hole. A whirlpool effect. An abyss and being happy to drift towards it. Unafraid to involve the deep dark unconscious. Falling on a symbolic spiritual vacuum. Determined to repair the ruptures of our relationships - personal and societal. With no clue how to do it.

about

BADgertRAP Bristol, UK

unconventional singersongwriter

Punky rock blues guitar with off-kilter percussion, dark, direct and unexpected lyrics.

Angsty like Violent Femmes and they add a Cohen brother's style quirky vibe.

The music relates to a tradition of impassioned political folk. Live shows have an element of theatrical pantomime that defy conventional notions of the singer-songwriter.
